promised date issue

Hi... I need some help...

This issue is referred to PO and IProc modules.

Today all agreements don't have the field "promised date" as a mandatory field. Some users want to change it, they want to make this field mandatory. The problem is: if the field becomes mandatory, all past agreements current opened will need to have the promised date field filled in. Therefore, all past agreements ( a huge quantity) will need to be revalidated via workflow, causing waste of time.

Does exist a better way to handle with this?[?]
